Rapid Assessment Demographics: Understanding Island Communities

The rapid assessment was conducted across 36 communities out of 47 communities targeted for the Mini Grid project. Data was collected by enumerators from individuals responding to both households and institutions. A total of 171 respondents participated, including 134 respondents for households and 37 institutions.

Household respondents provided information on household size, gender, age, and occupation, while institutional respondents shared details on the type of institutions, services, and staffing.

Survey Coverage

The survey covered 36 communities with 6 enumerators conducting interviews over the period of 1st June 2025 to 20th June 2025. Households accounted for 78% of responses and Institutions accounted for 22% of responses.

Gender of Respondents

The survey recorded 64% (110) Male and 36% (64) Female respondents. This gender split highlights a higher participation of male respondents in the sampled households and institutions.

Age Distribution of Respondents

Respondents' ages ranged from 20 years to 60+, with the largest group falling in the 40-49 age bracket. The median age was 45 years and the mean was approximately 38 years, indicating a mature respondent base across communities.
